The funeral for Annie Ruth Laxson Yarbrough, 81, of Athens will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Isom’s Chapel Methodist Church. Burial will be in Isom’s Chapel Church Cemetery with Eddie Gooch officiating.
Visitation is from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Yarbrough passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at home.
Annie Yarbrough was born June 28, 1930, in Limestone County, to Robert Guinn Laxson and Annie Vazelle Grooms Laxson. Mrs. Yarbrough was a member of Isom’s Chapel Methodist Church. She was involved in the UMW, instrumental in starting Upward Basketball Ministry. She loved to sing and praise the Lord, and was choir director for many years. She sang in a group that worshipped at the Nursing Homes.
Mrs. Yarbrough compiled and wrote the history of East Limestone High School. She was an active member of the Woodman of the World and a renowned birthday and wedding cake baker. She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Clayton Edward Yarbrough for 60-plus years.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Joyce Laxson Smith of Chicago.
Survivors include her husband, Clayton Edward Yarbrough of Athens; two daughters, Yvonne Chadick and husband Bill of Athens, and Ann Smith and husband Richard of Huntsville; one son, Don Yarbrough and wife Trudi of Cumberland Furnace, Tenn.; grandchildren, Charles Smith, Carolyn Ponce, Keisha Chadick, Josh Chadick and Laura Yarbrough; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glynn Laxson and wife Ermogene, and Wallace Laxson and wife Ginger, all of Athens; and sister, Joan Laxson of Athens.
