Memorial services will be held at a later date at Fishdam Cemetery in Union County, S.C., for Rowland F. Thomas Jr., 84, who passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at 9 a.m. at J. Michael Morrow Nursing Home in Arnaudville, La.
Mr. Thomas was a native of South Carolina and a resident of Breaux Bridge. He graduated from Union High School in Union, S.C., and Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. He served in the Philippines in the U.S. Army Infantry before and after World War II and again in Korea as a lieutenant in 1950-1951. He completed his education with a Master's Degree in Education from East Carolina in 1956. Mr. Thomas spent the majority of his working life with Georgia Pacific Corporation as a Training Director.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona “Ronnie” Davis Thomas of Breaux Bridge; one son, Rowland Glenn Thomas, PhD, of Breaux Bridge; one daughter, Susannah Thomas Carter and her husband, John, of Tignall, Ga.; three grandchildren, Andrea Teverzczuk and her husband, Jamie, Sarabeth Thomas and Rachel Lynne Thomas; and one great-grandchild, Ethan Teverzczunk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rowland Thomas Sr. and the former Alma Wade, both natives of South Carolina.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of J. Michael Morrow Nursing Home for their well-organized and executed procedures and a special thanks to all his caregivers for being both caring and kind.
