Vernon Kerry

— The funeral for Vernon A. Kerry, 77, of Athens will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McConnell Funeral Home with Dusty McLemore officiating.

Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Kerry passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa.

Vernon Kerry was born Jan. 6, 1935, to Sam and Clarise Kerry. Mr. Kerry retired with more than 35 years of contracting experience with the U.S. Army at Redstone Arsenal, serving as a supervisor contract specialist. He had a tour in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and LSU sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leonard and Claude Kerry; and son, Richard Kerry.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Sarah Kerry; one daughter, Michelle Beggs and husband Larry of Athens; stepdaughter, Wendy Jordan and husband Andy of Athens; one sister, Sybil A. Kerry of Trinity, Texas; two grandchildren, Sabina Stewart and Lauren Beggs; two step-grandchildren, Whitney Jordan and Sam Jordan; and two great-grandchildren, Lexi and Lance.

Pallbearers will be Ron Parmley, Llane McGee, Donald Parmley, Bill Parmley, Jamar Martindale and Scott Parmley.

Honorary pallbearers are Milt Bowling and Charlie Ferry.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Council on Aging of Limestone County.
