Wilburn Moore

— Wilburn Lee Moore, 88, of Athens passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at home. 

Mr. Moore was born May 9, 1924, in Limestone County to Kirby Lee Moore and Nancy Brooks Moore. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens. He was the past treasurer of the Alabama DAV. He was also the past commander of the Athens Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion. Mr. Moore was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was awarded Veteran of the Year in 1996 in the state of Alabama.

The funeral for Mr. Moore will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery with Matt Stockman and Walter Jones officiating.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Moore; daughter, Linda Colvin and husband E.T.; sons, Larry Moore and wife Rhonda S., Lanny Moore and Lonny Moore; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joyce Clem Moore; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kirb and Nanny Moore; brother, Malcolm Moore; daughters-in-law, Pam Moore and Mary Moore; granddaughter, Diane LaNay Moore.

Pallbearers are Larry Moore, Lanny Moore, Lonny Moore, Daniel Moore, Todd Colvin and Matt Crawford.  Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Stroud, Matt Stockman, E.T. Colvin and members of chapter 51 of Disabled American Veterans.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.
