Paul Rose Sr.

— The funeral for Paul Edward “Jack” Rose Sr., 63, of Athens will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Spry Funeral Home with James Turner and Greg Standrige officiating. Burial will be in Dement Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Rose died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Huntsville Hospital.

Paul Rose Sr. was born March 26, 1949, in Limestone County. He was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Rose was employed by AT&T and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a former all-state football and basketball player from Clements High School and a charter member of the Calhoun Community College men’s basketball team where he excelled from the free-throw line. Mr. Rose was also an avid scuba diver and saltwater fisherman. He was a devoted family man.

He was preceded in  death by his parents, J.B. and Allene Rose.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Whitworth Rose of Athens; son, Paul Rose Jr. of Athens; daughter, Beth Rose Sheehan of Harvest; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Hilda Whitworth; grandchildren, Levi Rose, Camryn Sheehan, Cassie Sheehan and Emma Sheehan; brothers, George Michael Rose of Huntsville, Julian Wayne Rose of St. Louis, Mo., and Jonathan Neal Rose of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Alex Gulley, Nathan Pinkerton, Chris Rose, Jeremy Rose, Stan Harrison and Thomas Swan. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy McGuire, Rick Whitworth and Gary Whitworth.
