The funeral for Artie Mae McConnell, 91, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at McConnell Funeral Home with Chuck Hood officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. McConnell passed away Friday, April 20, 2012, at Limestone Health Facility.
Mrs. McConnell was born April 16, 1921, to Milard Breese Oaks and Alva Wallace Oaks. She was the owner of McConnell Grocery Stores in Athens and Goodsprings, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands Almon McConnell and Ray Benefield; two sisters, Pauline Jernigan and Sylble Coleman; one brother, Dwight Oaks; and stepdaughter, Sherry Garner.
She is survived by two sons, Tommy McConnell and wife Margie of Anderson, Andy McConnell and wife Marsha of Decatur; two daughters, Becky Ridgeway and husband Mack of Anderson, Sara Herchenhahn and husband Mark of Decatur; 14 grandchildren, Brandon McConnell and wife Tracy, Brian McConnell, Sonya Rice and husband Shane, Mona Sims and husband Dewayne, Jason Ridgeway and wife Christina, Daren Owens and wife Deborah, Doug Owens, Mart Herchenhahn and wife Kristin, Tonya Nettles and husband Brian, Jennifer McCubbins, Jamie Mosley, Christyn Selby, Eddy Garner and wife Valorie, Joey Garner and wife Jan; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brandon McConnell, Brian McConnell, Daren Owens, Doug Owens, Jason Ridgeway and Marty Herchenhahn.
Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.
