Leroy Edward Davenport, 68, of Athens passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012. at his residence. Mr. Davenport was born Nov. 9, 1943, in Limestone County to Lawrence Edward Davenport and Sarah Zonnie Adcock Davenport.
Memorial services will be Saturday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Gerald Bossard and the Rev. Terry Lamar officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 10-11 a.m. with the memorial service following.
Mr. Davenport was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hobart, Ind. He was an elder and deacon and on the Dartball League. Mr. Davenport was retired from the U.S. Navy, and from US Steel in Gary, Ind. He was an avid outdoorsman, a member of Faith Lutheran in Madison, and was a member of the Owls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Zonnie Davenport; and sister, Grace Pepper.
He was survived by his loving wife, Charlene Klemm Davenport of Athens; son, Douglas Davenport of Indianapolis; daughter, Kristal Shaff and husband Peter of Camanche, Iowa; three grandchildren, Lauren, Adam and Kira Shaff; four sisters, Ruth Claxton of Hobart, Ind., Edna Ryan, Judy Foster and husband Richard and Tamara Teeples and husband Larry, all of Athens; two brothers-in-law, Laverne Klemm and wife Cathy and Dennis Klemm and wife Michelle, both of Hobart, Ind.; several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Faith Lutheran Church in Madison or Lebanon Community Church in Elkmont.
