The graveside service for Joseph Hagan Collier, 91, of Athens was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Athens City Cemetery with Don Osborne officiating.
Mr. Collier passed on, Monday, May 1, 2012, at home.
Mr. Collier was born Sept. 6, 1920, to Joseph W. Collier and Emmie Lee Hammonds in Limestone County. Mr. Collier served three years in the Army Air Force during World War II, as a flight engineer and gunner sergeant, and 30 years with Redstone Arsenal as machinist. He was a founding partner in Turner Machine Shop.
Mr. Collier was a member of Capshaw Church of Christ and East Side Church of Christ and served as elder for six years
Mr. Collier was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth Locke; granddaughter, Katie Collier; and son-in-law, Marty Gilbert.
Mr. Collier is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sarah C. Collier of Athens; son, Tim Collier and wife Melia of Athens; one daughter, JoAnn Gilbert; one brother, Tom Collier and wife June; three grandchildren, Michael Gilbert and wife Sarah, Amanda Moore and husband Chris, Michael Winter and wife Lauren; seven great-grandchildren, Cary Moore, Madison Moore, Ainslee Moore, Everley Moore, Harper Winter, Brookes Winter and Isabella Grace Gilbert.
