— Betty “Betsy” Butler Gardner, 83, died Dec. 25, 2012, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Betty attended Athens College in Athens and Peabody College and Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She began her teaching career in Ardmore, Ala., and the Williamson County Schools. She taught business education for 25 years at Cohn High School, finishing her career at John Overton High School in Nashville. Betty loved her students and has continued to maintain friendships with many over the years. She retired in 1987 and began to enjoy gardening, golf, hiking and motor home travel. She hiked many trails throughout the United States, including Alaska. Betty loved hiking because she felt closer to her God when in the midst of nature. A visitation with family and friends will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. today.
