Joseph Garlen

— A memorial service for Joseph W. Garlen, 79, of Meridianville was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Flint River Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Marsh officiating.

He died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at home.

Mr. Garlen retired from Redstone Arsenal. He was a military veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elrie and Mamie Garlen; one daughter, Barbara Bradord; brother, Lee Garlen and sister, Kristle Garlen.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Garlen; son, Larry Garlen of Athens; two stepdaughters, Sandy Dobbins of Birmingham and Melissa Clem of New Market; three grandsons; six step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Flint River Baptist Church, 12945 Highway 231/431 North, Hazel Green, AL 35750-8630.
