Severe storms expected to strike much of Alabama
The weather service expects the line of storms to be over far northern Alabama around 3 p.m.; in the Tuscaloosa area by around 6 p.m.; and just south of Montgomery by 9 p.m.

District Attorney Brian Jones and Limestone County Commissioner Ben Harrison both called for calm and cooperation among members. Jones said he was “extremely disheartened and disappointed” in the group for bickering during the meeting.

Mom of son sentenced in school shooting reaches plea agreement
Hammad Memon, 17, pleaded guilty, May 28, to murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison after shooting his ninth-grade classmate, Todd Brown, in the head at Discovery Middle School on Feb. 5, 2010.

Athens man accused of sexual abuse of teen girl
Both incidents occurred June 11 at different times in the area of Fifth Avenue and the train tracks, according to police.

County schools system adds seven positions
The school system currently has 38 jobs posted, including 29 teaching positions. The positions, which are listed for two weeks, will close June 19.
