Governor Bob Riley will be headlining a rally for Athens Mayor Dan Williams, Republican candidate for state representative, and Bill Holtzclaw, GOP candidate for state senate, today from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the Athens State University Student Center Ballroom at 300 N. Beaty St.
Williams was first elected mayor of Athens in 1992. He served on the Athens City School Board for five years and on the Athens City Council for eight years with four years as council president before his election as mayor.
In addition to elective service, Williams worked 25 years for the State of Alabama Department of Human Resources and spent 26 years in the Alabama National Guard.
He and his wife Kay have four children and five grandchildren.
Holtzclaw is a retired Marine, a former financial advisor and former contracts specialist at NASA.
He lives in madison, where he was elected to the City Council in 2008, with his wife Pam and their daughter Abby. His daughter Sydney is enrolled at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Holtzclaw is a former Trustee at Asbury United Methodist Church. He and Pam also volunteer at Fathom – the Asbury Youth Group. He continues to serve on the board of directors of Vets with Vettes and Corvette Owners, where he is a founding member, and he is active with the The Semper Fi Community Task Force where he served on the Board of Directors and as the Treasurer from 2006–2008.
