First good deeds bake sale spreads community goodwill

— It’s been said, “a good deed goes a long way.”

For one group in Athens a recent “good deeds day” went above and beyond what anyone was expecting.

The $300 raised might not sound like much to some, but those who reaped its benefits said it meant a lot.

The group “Amy’s Down Home Cooking,” created by Athens resident Amy Horton as a way to share recipes, held the Good Deeds Bake Sale Saturday.

The Good Deeds group, consisting of 30 cooks, sold more than 40 homemade treats including pies, cookies and fresh bread to raise more than $300.
