ATHENS —
Athens Police have identified a suspect in Sunday’s robbery at the Raceway convenience store and gas station on U.S. 72 East.
Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said today investigators have obtained a warrant and are looking for the suspect at this time. He will disclose the suspects name later today.
“The clerk told officers a black male wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt, black jacket, white tennis shoes and dark sun glasses entered the store and demanded the money,” Johnson said.
Although the suspect indicated he had a pistol, the clerk did not see one. The robbery received an undisclosed amount of cash and left walking west, the chief said.
Police disseminated a surveillance video photograph to news organizations after the crime occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
