Proposal to save courthouse steps under review

— A proposal to preserve a staircase at the Limestone County Courthouse was presented during a Wednesday morning work session but the plan has not been finalized.

Architect Mike Watson of 2WR in Montgomery gave a presentation to the Limestone County Commission after several citizens attended the Jan. 16 work session to oppose removing the interior eastern staircase because of what they perceive as its historical importance.

Inside the courthouse are two open stairwells with marble steps and iron railings. The eastern staircase was slated for removal this March to allow for the installation of a new elevator.
