City Council members paved the way Monday for a senior residential community as well as residential and commercial development off U.S. 72 East in Athens.
In a 4-0 vote, council members backed a plan to construct a public street that will connect French Farms Boulevard off U.S. 72 and Old Decatur Road.
The decision restores a road that became defunct in the 1980s.
Public Works Director James Rich recommended the project to council members. Council members Jimmy Gill, Harold Wales, Wayne Harper and Joseph Cannon backed the improvement for several reasons, including:
