The Athens Police Department had no new details to release Saturday in what they are calling an ongoing murder investigation.
Police were called to Elmwood Apartments on East Elm Street Friday night at 7 p.m. after the body of 32-year-old Sharon Wellington was discovered. Police say concerned friends who had not heard from Wellington over the last couple of days made the discovery.
Wellington reportedly lived alone in the apartment.
Police Chief Floyd Johnson said Wellington’s body has been transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences Lab in Huntsville for an autopsy. The department is releasing no other details about the manner of death or information that could compromise the investigation.
