Earth Day events moved indoors

— If it rains Saturday, don’t stay home because you think the Earth Day festivities in Athens will be canceled.

Rain is a welcome aspect of life on earth and the celebration — from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Big Spring Memorial Park — will commence, though the location has changed, said Lynne Hart, executive coordinator for Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful.

Earth Day events have been moved to Athens State University’s Carter gymnasium on Pryor Street. The Do Da Parade will take place on the college grounds if it shines and in the gym if it rains, she said.

The self-service paper shredding and electronic-device collection will go on as planned, only outside the gym. Volunteers will be available to unload vehicles.

Also planned are $1-per-minute massages, Raptor Trek, exhibits, entertainment, food and fun.
