Army Materiel Command employees’ personal information mishandled

— An investigation is under way into a breach of the person information of more than 400 Army Materiel Command employees.

An AMC employee transported official hard copy documents to the employee's personal residence in the Huntsville area. The documents were retrieved and are currently secured. The compromise was immediately reported to the AMC Privacy Office, the Army Privacy Act Office and the Army Criminal Investigation Division. There was no evidence of criminal or fraudulent activity and the probability is low that the information was used for unlawful purposes.

All AMC employees were notified of the breach. Employees whose information was compromised will be notified with details specific to their personal information, and will be provided a credit monitoring service.

The affected employees are assigned to locations within AMC headquarters and across AMC's subordinate commands, with the majority at Redstone Arsenal.

“The Army takes this loss very seriously and is reviewing current policies and practices with a view of determining what can or must be changed to preclude a similar occurrence in the future,” said Brig. Gen. Darrell Williams, AMC chief of staff.  “At a minimum, we will be providing additional training to personnel to ensure that they understand that personally identifiable information must at all times be treated in a manner that preserves and protects the confidentiality of the data.”
