Free dental screenings have been scheduled at four Limestone County Schools, which are aimed at improving dental care for Alabama’s uninsured or underinsured youth.
On Wednesday, dental screenings will be offered at Owens Elementary School and West Limestone High School. Screenings will be offered Thursday at Elkmont High School and on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at East Limestone High School.
Students have or will receive permission slips that must be turned in before the screening day.
Sarrell Regional Dental Center, a non-profit group trying to improve dental care for uninsured or under-insured children in Alabama, will offer the free screenings to children ages 1 through 20.
No insurance is required, only a parent’s written permission if they are minors.
Sarrell dentists will screen students and, if needed, provide treatment at the clinic in the old health department building on Elm Street in Athens. If follow-up care is needed for the students, Sarrell will bill BlueCross/BlueShield ALL Kids, Alabama’s free and low-cost insurance for kids.
Sarrell has similar dental clinics in Anniston, Bessemer, Boaz, Enterprise, Heflin, Leesburg Talladega and Mobile, and vision centers in Anniston, Bessemer, Boaz and Heflin.
