Clergy, singers to present 9-11 remembrance

— Saturday, several members of the local clergy and several singers will gather in Big Spring Park and the south side of the downtown Limestone County Courthouse Square to commemorate those lives lost in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

This is the second annual “We Cry America Celebration” organized by John Axford of Living Water Works Ministry.

“We started ‘We Cry America’ last year and had a great event on the east side of the square,” Axford said. “We sang and prayed and had a World Trade Centers Tower 2 survivor with us. Most city officials attended, and we were well attended for an event that was planned in just 11 days. This year promises to be a great event.”

The events leading up to Saturday’s commemoration began on Sept. 3 when local residents were encouraged to meet in churches, homes, prayer groups, individually or online to begin “8 Days of Prayer for a Great Spiritual Awakening in America.”

Events will culminate Saturday with a Remembrance Prayer Walk in Big Spring Park from 9 to 11:30 a.m. That program will include prayer, praise songs and reading of scriptures.

At noon, the public is invited to join local clergy and performers on the south side of the square for the Remembrance and Prayer Celebration.

Among performers scheduled for Saturday are: Brad Pullum; Pastor Donald Terry of The Terrys; The Rocketeers barbershop quartet, who will present a patriotic medley of songs; Glen Price, worship leader at Clements Baptist; John Carwile of ThreeFold, and Axford, who is a singing evangelist.

David Root, pastor of Athens First Church of God, will present a salute to those 9-11 victims who lost their lives in the Pentagon attack.
