Flu-shot clinic scheduled for students in Limestone

— Schools in Limestone County will offer voluntary flu-vaccination clinics Monday, Oct. 15, to keep students and faculty healthy and to try to reduce absenteeism.

The Family Health Clinic of Union Springs Inc. — an Alabama Vaccine for Children provider — along with Auburn University School of Nursing and HNH Immunizations Inc. — an Alabama-based community immunizer —will host the influenza vaccination clinics. Participation is voluntary.

Follow-up booster shots for students age 8 and under who have never received a flu vaccine will be given their booster Tuesday, Nov. 20.

The program offers the painless nasal-spray vaccination as well as injectable vaccinations. Students with health insurance will be covered without co-payments, deductibles or out-of-pocket expenses required. Students covered by Medicaid or who are without health insurance will receive the vaccination at no cost while supplies last.

Parent consent forms, including the CDC vaccine information statements, have been given to all students and had to be returned Monday, Oct. 8.
