County Commission headed to D.C. for budget cuts conference

— The Limestone County Commission will have a front-row seat for feedback from Congress’ decision on whether to postpone or allow across-the-board federal budget cuts scheduled to take effect Friday.

As much as 3 percent, or $85 million, of the federal budgets could be trimmed, and the scheduled cuts could affect program funding to state and local governments.

The cuts could be delayed but Reuters reported Sunday White House and Congress have not made progress in negotiating a postponement deal for budget cuts, also known as sequestration.
