An anonymous tip and the distinct and pungent odor of marijuana led to the arrest of seven people on drug charges Thursday night in Toney.
An anonymous caller reported illegal activity at a mobile home at 26335 Johnson Lane, Lot 5, sometime before 8 p.m., said Limestone County Sheriff’s Lt. Lance Royals.
When Royals and Limestone Investigator Josh McLaughlin went to the home around 8:15 p.m., they were met at the front door by the 36-year-old homeowner, Beth Ann Scroggins, who allowed the investigators to enter.
“She had just gotten home from work, so I don’t think she really knew what was going on,” Royals said.
The distinct and pungent odor of marijuana greeted the two investigators as soon as they entered, so they began securing the residence, he said.
“We found six others in the home, and they were in back smoking some marijuana,” Royals said. “There was meth, marijuana and some Ecstasy pills in plain view. They had just put the meth on a plate, along with a razor blade and a snorting straw. We also found some evidence of a recent meth lab both inside and outside the residence.”
The two investigators confiscated two or three Ecstasy pills, about $200 worth of meth and a marijuana cigarette, he said.
Limestone deputies Johnny Morell and Josh Garlen, who were called to the scene, helped make the arrests, Royals said.
Because of the bust, the following are facing four charges, including manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia:
• Brandi Nicole Brown, 18, of 18442 Oakdale Road, Athens; freed from Limestone County Jail after posting $27,000 bond;
