Two Head Start programs in Limestone County, three in Madison and 10 in Huntsville will share $732,600 in federal funding in 2010, according to Congressman Parker Griffith, D-Alabama.
The money will go to the Community Action Agencies of Limestone and Madison counties for the child-development program.
“I am pleased that the CAA is receiving this funding to improve early childhood education,” Griffith said. “Our nation’s educational system needs fast action and this is a step in the right direction. It is vital that we develop and strengthen these skills early in life. Head Start is a wonderful program that builds a strong foundation for our children and starts them off on the right track.”
Head Start is a comprehensive child-development program designed to meet the needs of all enrolled children and their families by maximizing their strengths. This program assists 3-and 4-year-old children, giving priority to 4-year-olds, Medicaid recipients and children with disabilities.
“I look forward to seeing more great results from Head Start,” Griffith said. “Making sure our children are prepared for their careers and providing our teachers with the resources they need is integral to the success of America, and it is one of the best and most beneficial public policies to enact.”
