County arrests
The Limestone County Sheriff’s Department reported the following arrests Monday:
• John David Harbin, 53, of 5939 East Evergreen, Mesa, Ariz., DUI
• Johnny Neal Keeton, 45, of 17 Union Road, Sommerville, failure to pay child support
• Bobby Ray Pitts, 45, of 93950 Seven Mile Post Road, Athens, public intoxication
• Stanley Fritzgerald Stewart, 39, of 1042 Patterson Lane, Meridianville, failure to pay child support
• Kathy Lynn Usery, 29, of 3505 Ventura Road S.W., Huntsville, third-degree criminal trespassing
• Luis Fernando Zenteno, 19, of 9955 Lucas Ferry Road, Athens, improper lane use, DUI, illegal possession of prohibited liquor, open container of alcohol and no insurance
County thefts
The Limestone County Sheriff’s Department the following thefts Monday:
• English bulldog, valued at $250, taken in a theft Thursday in the15000 block of McCulley Mill Road
• Two crates of aluminum cans, valued at $50, taken in a theft Friday in the 18000 block of Coffman Road

The Athens Police Department reported the following arrests Monday:
• Jason Dale Vibbert, 26, of 13483 Reid Road, Athens, third-degree theft of property
• Turner Lee Rogers, 55, of 106 Edinburg Drive, Athens, third-degree theft of property
• Alan Dean Anderson, 45, of 2230 Graham Ave. S.W., Decatur, two counts of theft of property
• Jeffery Scott Branson, 18, of 28736 Jennings Chapel Road, Toney, no insurance (arrest made on court order)
• Keith James Blair, 20, of 25883 Smithfield Road, Elkmont, harassment
• Matthew Shane Dollar, 20, of 110 N. Thomas St., Apt. 104, Athens, DUI
• Jesus Monreal Salazar, 35, of 20251 Wallace Lane, Athens, DUI
• Luis Angel Torres Cotto, 32, of 1000 Sixth St. S.W., Decatur, DUI
• Juan Reyes Hernandez, 32, of 192 Woodward Estates, Bessemer, DUI and possession of a controlled substance
• Gerardo Ibarra Pinales, 37, of 907 Elm St., Athens, DUI and giving false name to a law enforcement officer
• Darrin Lynn Romine, 43, of 17876 Elles Drive, Athens, domestic violence (simple assault)
• Timothy Scott Campbell, 44, of 3526 U.S. 31, Decatur, driving while license revoked (arrest made on court order)
• Rosalio Arroyo Estevan, 46, of 721 Plato Jones, Athens, public drunkenness
City thefts
The Athens Police Department reported the following thefts Monday:
• Alabama license plate valued at $138 taken in a theft of property Friday at 16686 Lucas Ferry Road
• Wallet, food stamp card, debit card and cash, total value $100, taken Thursday in a third-degree theft of property at 1301 N. Jefferson St.
• Six miscellaneous credit cards and a wallet. $20 value, taken Sunday in a theft of property at 800 U.S. 31 South, and third-degree criminal mischief of a door frame, valued at $250, Sunday at 1105 Woodridge Drive
• Larceny of currency, assorted credit cards, driver’s license and three Social Security cards, total value $710, Sunday at 1109 U.S. 72 East
Wrecks
• Tyler Hess, 18, of Athens was injured Sunday at 7:20 p.m. in a one-car accident on Gordon Road, eight miles west of Athens. State troopers say Hess was driving a 2004 Suzuki and not wearing a seat belt. He was taken to Huntsville Hospital and has been released.

Athens-Limestone Hospital reported no admissions or discharges Monday.

Local woman dies in Friday fire
A woman who was badly burned when she was discovered in her unit at Elmwood Apartments by police and firefighters late Friday night died not long before midnight, authorities said.
Vickie Strasser, 52, was taken by ambulance at about 10:40 p.m. to Athens-Limestone Hospital with second- and third-degree burns over 95 percent of her body. MedFlight was called to rush her to Huntsville Hospital at about 11:30 p.m., but she died before the helicopter arrived. -
Athens Police make 14 arrests in Friday night drug roundup
Friday night was a busy one for Athens Police officers. While several investigators were conducting a roundup that resulted in 14 arrests, other officers responded to a fire call at Elmwood apartments (see story on today’s front page).
Lt. Trevor Harris said officers conducted search warrants at two homes — one at 1210 Plato Jones St. and another at 903 Brownsferry St.
Madison Police Department provided two additional officers and dogs from the K-9 unit to assist. -
Family displaced by fire seeking residence to rent
One family displaced by last Sunday’s fire at Athens Village Apartments is desperately looking for a home or apartment to rent in the area.
Scott Robertson and his wife, Amanda, and four children, daughter Jordan, 16; son Matthew, 14; son Dallas, 9; and daughter Lily, 5, lost everything they owned on Aug. 29 when an early morning fire — sparked by a cigarette thrown on a patio chair outside another apartment — destroyed all eight units in Building D of the apartment complex at 1711 W. Elm St. in Athens. -
TVA ranks in Top 10 for economic development
For the fifth year in a row, the Tennessee Valley Authority has been named by Site Selection magazine as one of the top 10 North American utilities for economic development achievement. -
Bank robbers remain at large in city, county
Athens Police are still searching for a white man who robbed TVA Credit Union on East Hobbs Street in Athens on July 9.

Woman burned in fire at Elmwood Apartments
A woman who was burned over 95 percent of her body after a fire in her unit at Elmwood Apartments was taken to Athens-Limestone Hospital by ambulance at around 10:45 p.m.

The Trinity High School Grand Reunion parade will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Athens.

Limestone County Beekeepers Association received a grant from the Alabama Mountains, Rivers and Valleys district of the RC&D Council.

Trinity High School had many distinguished graduates
Local resident Lt. Col. James L. Walker gathered biographies of some of these graduates as the school celebrates its annual Grand Reunion today and Saturday in Athens.

Part of Clinton Street in Athens to be closed at least 2 more weeks
Clinton Street in Athens, between Lee and Forrest streets, will be closed for at least two more weeks while Athens Utilities replaces sewer lines that are up to 75 years old, an official said.
