Local author Bill Hunt’s second book, “A Full-Grown Man,” has won first place in an author’s contest in Louisville.
“I saw an ad in Writer’s Digest last August for the 2009 Almost Famous Authors Faire in Louisville,” said Hunt. “Part of the faire was a writing contest for unknown authors. So I e-mailed them ‘A Full-Grown Man.’”
Hunt said in the intervening months he went on to other projects and nearly forgot about the faire and entering the contest.
“They had 50 tables for new authors at the faire, which was held at the Galt House Ballroom in Louisville, but I wasn’t able to attend,” he said. “The faire was on Nov. 7 and I was notified on Nov. 12 that I had won first place in the writing contest.
“They awarded first, second and third place and first place carried with it a $200 prize.”
“A Full-Grown Man” is Hunt’s first totally fictional work. He published “Last Witness From a Dirt Road” nearly four years ago, which he describes as a “fictionalized memoir” about growing up the son of an overseer on a Louisiana sugar plantation. Hunt has given readings from “Last Witness…” in several states and has excerpted a chapter into a one-act play, “The Saturday Night Ball.”
Hunt’s unpublished novella, “Willie,” was serialized in the News Courier in August and September 2008.
Hunt is currently working on a new book.
