A Madison man has been charged with theft by deception for failing to roof and side an Athens lodge as agreed, an official said.
Athens Police Investigator Johnny Campbell and Capt. Marty Bruce arrested Michael Kevin Pressnell, 42, of 1707 Liberty Drive at his home Thursday morning on a charge of first-degree theft of property, said Lt. Floyd Johnson.
The Athelstine Lodge on Plato Jones Street had paid Pressnell more than $2,500 to replace the roof and install vinyl siding on the lodge, Johnson said. Several weeks passed without work commencing, so the lodge called the police.
Campbell investigated the incident and obtained an arrest warrant.
