This weekend is the time when Athens comes alive for the holiday season. The courthouse square will be a bustle of activity for the annual open house and, down the street, the Donnell House Board of Trustees also has a day of good things planned.
The Donnell Log Cabin Bazaar will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Visitors may shop for gifts, decorations or baked goods. The bazaar committee will also have homemade chili for sale priced at $2.50 a pint and $5 a quart.
Pre-order chili by calling Pat Lewis (256) 232-7370 or Debra Enfinger (256) 233-8468.
On Thursday, Dec. 10, the Donnell board will host an open house from 5 to 8 p.m.
“There will be no Festival of Trees this year,” Chairwoman Lisa Gilbert said. “The house will be decorated for the holidays, but not heavily. The house has never looked better. We have a gorgeous chandelier for the dining room that we purchased in recent months and some new rugs.”
The Athens Garden Club is decorating the outside of the house.
There is no set admission price for the open house, but donations are always appreciated for the continued maintenance and upkeep of the house.
Guests will be treated to hors d’oeuvres passed on silver trays and festive drinks will be served in different rooms.
