Athens Police arrested a woman wanted since February for allegedly trying to obtain a prescription diet drug under a relative’s name, an official said.
Sherrie H. Eubanks, 48, of 1200 Seventh Ave., was arrested Tuesday night on a charge of possession of a controlled substance after her story was featured on a local television station, said Athens Police Lt. Floyd Johnson.
Athens Police Detective Greg Parnell had investigated the case and obtained an arrest warrant for Eubanks but police were unable to find her until Tuesday night.
She is accused of obtaining from a local pharmacy the prescription medication Didrex, a brand of benzphetamine, a drug that reduces appetite and is closely related to amphetamine.
Eubanks also had outstanding warrants for unrelated misdemeanor charges, including two counts of failing to appear or pay for driving while her license is revoked, one count each of failing to appear on charges of giving a false name to a law-enforcement officer and no seat belt, and probation revocation on a conviction for second-degree possession of marijuana.
She was booked at the Athens Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail, where bond is set at $7,000.
