Southbound traffic on U.S. 31 south of Tanner has been rerouted to the northbound lane of Swan Creek bridge so the southbound bridge can be repaired.
“Work will continue until Thursday or Friday,” said Alabama Department of Transportation Division 1 Engineer Johnny Harris.
The southbound bridge is being repaired because it was damaged during a traffic accident, Harris said.
Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution between Laughmiller Road, which is just north of Rogers Group quarry, and Peete Road, which is just north of the Pryor home.
Electronic message boards, maintenance vehicles and orange cones alert motorists to the upcoming work, but those people driving south should slow down considerably, especially at night, because they will be abruptly cornering to enter and exit the northbound bridge at Swan Creek.
A state trooper is also assisting in the area at times.
