A new resident of Limestone County questioned Commissioners Monday about why the county does not have a noise ordinance.
Ralph Neill of the Antler Point neighborhood in East Limestone said he is being kept awake at night by a barking dog. He said the dog’s owner denied that her pet barks.
“She said ‘my dog doesn’t bark,’ and I said, ‘Yes he does. He barks at 11 at night and he barks at 5:30 in the morning and sometimes he barks all night.’ Then she says,’ Well, what do you expect when you live in the county?’”
Commission Chairman David Seibert said that commissioners considered a noise resolution once.
“We had a vote some time ago and found there are a lot of ways to address a public nuisance,” said Seibert. “But we have no zoning.”
Seibert recommended that Neill talk to his commissioner, Gerald Barksdale. The commissioner said he had other complaints about barking dogs, but he didn’t know if it was in reference to the same dog.

In other business, the commission:
• Renewed a contract with MAC uniforms for one year at bid prices awarded Dec. 1, 2008;
• Amended a contract for homemaker services with Beth McCluskey to contract with Peggy Campbell instead;
• Revised Probate Judge Mike Davis’ budget for computer programming service and training in the amount of $6,500;
• Approved out-of-state travel for Alicia Trexler, Emily Ezzell and Pam Ball to travel by personal vehicle July 12-16, 2010, to Sandestin, Fla., for a APPA Human Resource Conference;
• Revised the staffing plan to add a carpenter to project management department and approved a job description;
• Approved family medical leave for Vanessa Rich from Nov. 18-Dec. 21;
• Set speed limits: Jernigan Hollow Road, 20 mph; Mooresville Road from U.S. 72 to Nick Davis, 45 mph; and Wooley Springs Road from McKee Road to Alabama 251, 35 mph;
• Approved First National Bank as the county depository;
• Approved a transport policy as required by state law for the kidney dialysis van. County Clerk-Administrator Pam Ball said the policy contains requirements the county was already performing, but they had never been put in the form of a written policy;
• Approved selling on GovDeals.com for the Recreation Department: 2005 Dutchman Aerolite camper; and a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup;
• Approved disposing or recycling cell phones and related equipment no longer in use;
• Approved resurfacing with plant mix 2 miles of Glaze Road in District 3 at a cost of $135,000.
