An Elkmont man accused of borrowing money from an acquaintance under the guise of opening a lawn-care business has been charged with first-degree theft by deception, an official said.
Lloyd Wayne Cuskaden, 52, of 21414 Harris Loop Road was arrested Friday by Limestone County Sheriff’s Department, said Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt.
He is accused of borrowing $4,100 from an individual to buy equipment needed to open a lawn-care business.
“He told the victim he already had some contracts to do lawn-care service, and he was to pay the money back in October,” McNatt said.
Investigators determined Cuskaden did not repay the money, he did not buy lawn-care equipment, and he did not secure contracts to do lawn care.
“He said he used the money to pay bills,” McNatt said.
Cuskaden remained in the Limestone County Jail Friday afternoon in lieu of posting a $5,000 bond, a jailer said.
