Mary Scott Hunter of Huntsville plans to run for the District 8 seat on the Alabama Board of Education in 2010.
The District 8 board member represents Limestone, Madison, Jackson, DeKalb and Etowah counties.
Hunter, a Republican, will formally announce her plans today at 10 a.m. at Red Bridge in Big Spring Park in Huntsville.
She graduated cum laude from the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama School of Law. She served 10 years as an Air Force judge advocate general, first in the active-duty Air Force, then in the reserves and Alabama Air National Guard. After moving to Huntsville from her last active-duty assignment in Germany, she established her law practice and is an associate with Siniard, Timberlake & League P.C.
Her husband, Jon, is a fighter pilot with the Alabama Air National Guard and two-time Bronze Star-decorated member of the 187th Fighter Wing. He is a principal engineer with Gray Research, working on a contract with NASA.
The couple also owns a small company — Torel Technology LLC.
