LCCI to hold food drive benefit

Limestone County Churches Involved needs help to help the community needy. The facility’s food bank originally assisted 30 to 40 families per week but in the past months there have been anywhere from 60-80 families with food needs.

These are not all reoccurring families, said volunteer Daniel Sampson. Due to supplies, families are only permitted to receive food donations four times a year.

There are a lot of families in need in Limestone County, Sampson said.

Each family, depending on size, receives a food donation of two bags of food, and one bread and desert bag. It takes a minimum of $2,000 of goods to meet the needs said director of operations Donald L. Stone.

LCCI will hold a gospel singing and chicken stew to benefit the food pantry at the facility. The benefit is from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at Salem United Methodist Family Life Center, located on Salem-Minor Hill Road.

Admission to the singing is the donation of food drive items such as canned vegetables, canned soups, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, tuna helper, canned tuna, instant potatoes, rice, beans, ravioli, beef stew, canned meat products, cereal, and other non-perishable items, or cash donations payable to LCCI Food Pantry.

Chicken stew will be $18 per gallon, $5 per quart, and $3 per bowl with crackers and coke. Hot dogs and hamburgers will also be available.

The event will include gospel singing from 4-8 p.m. and a silent auction from 5-7 p.m. including items such as a Daniel Moore painting of former Auburn University football coach Terry Bowden, handmade quilts, knives, fishing reels, baked goods, and more.

The Terry McNeal Band, The Piney Creek Blue Grass Band, Sunday Tradition and more will provide gospel music.

Families who need assistance are required to complete a confidential interview process, and provide a driver’s license or identification card showing proof of residency of Limestone County.
