Friday night was a busy one for Athens Police officers. While several investigators were conducting a roundup that resulted in 14 arrests, other officers responded to a fire call at Elmwood apartments (see story on today’s front page).
Lt. Trevor Harris said officers conducted search warrants at two homes — one at 1210 Plato Jones St. and another at 903 Brownsferry St.
Madison Police Department provided two additional officers and dogs from the K-9 unit to assist.
Harris said officers first went to the Plato Jones address, where six men and four women were arrested.
“Officers found crack cocaine on five suspects, and two were additionally charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance,” he said. “Two were arrested for loitering, and one was picked up on a warrant for failure to pay fines on an earlier charge.”
Officers then went to the Brownsferry Street residence and conducted a search of the premises.
“Crack cocaine was found on one man who was charged unlawful possession of a controlled substance,” Harris said. “Three arrest warrants for unlawful distribution of a controlled substance were also served on the same man. Two other men and one woman present in the house were arrested for loitering.”
Those arrested and their charges are:
• Johnny Warren, three counts distribution of a controlled substance, one count possession of a controlled substance;
• Corey Watkins, three counts distribution of a controlled substance, one count possession of a controlled substance;
• Johnny Yarbrough, one count distribution of a controlled substance;
