Laura Poe, a library clerk at Athens-Limestone Public Library, was named the 2013 Paralibrarian of the Year by the publication Library Journal.
Poe, who graces the cover of the current issue of the subscription-only magazine, learned of the honor in late January, but had to keep it quiet for a while. She was nominated by Library Director Paula Laurita and two co-workers.
“I think I was in a state of shock for two weeks,” she said, when asked about her reaction to the honor. “You just don’t expect to see yourself on something that comes through the mail.”
Chosen from a national field of library staff, Laurita said Poe combines outstanding customer service, dedication and a passion for her career. She added that Poe’s “tireless service” to patrons of the library impressed the editors of Library Journal.
