Athens Police Department is taking part in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. Officers will collect medication in the west parting lot of the Police Department at 951 E. Hobbs St. The Police Department is working with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the state Attorney General’s Office to give the public a way to safely depose of out-dated or unused medication. Participants will not have to fill out forms or answer questions when the medication is turned in. The first time the program was offered, last September, officials collected 80 pounds of medication.
