BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — LaFayette managed to trim Tanner’s 12-point halftime lead with a late third-quarter flurry but the Rattlers still lead 40-31 heading into the final period.
Haggermaker returned to start the third and made an immediate contribution with a putback of a Greg Maclin miss after Qua Boyd had opened the second half with four quick points for LaFayette.
But Haggermaker left the game with 3:18 in the third after taking his third foul.
Bubba Smith and Desmond Love each made key rebounds during LaFayette’s desperate attempt to get within five of the Rattlers but the closest the Bulldogs could reach was 37-31 late in the third.
