School Superintendent Bridges to retire in July

— Athens City Schools will soon be on the hunt for a new superintendent of schools.

Current Superintendent Orman Bridges Jr. announced Thursday he would retire July1 after 41 years as an educator, including 10 as head of city schools.

Bridges announced his impending departure at the close of Thursday’s school board meeting at the Central Office. Board President Russell Johnson read the superintendent’s resignation letter and then told Bridges he was reluctant to accept it, adding, “I understand your reasons.”
