Body recovered near home of missing teacher

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — The Lee County Sheriff's Office says a body has been recovered near the home a missing teacher shared with her ex-husband.

Investigators went to the scene late Tuesday after receiving information from 45-year-old Daniel Proctor about the location of the body. The body has been turned over to the medical examiner's office for identification and cause of death.

Lee County detectives got the tip Tuesday while in Huntsville, Ala., to testify in Proctor's felony theft trial. He was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday on those charges.

Amy Patterson was reported missing in July 2011 when she didn't show up for the first day of school. Proctor was arrested on the Alabama theft charges after fleeing to Florida when investigators questioned him about Patterson's disappearance.
