ATHENS —
Athens City Council members have certified the results of Tuesday’s runoff election.
Council members took the action during a special meeting Friday.
Certified election totals show Chris Seibert defeated Danny Crawford 314 votes to 252 in the runoff for the District 1 City Council seat that is being vacated by Mignon Bowers.
The certified total matches the final but unofficial total released election night.
About 17.8 percent of voters registered in District 1 voted in the runoff.
Seibert will be sworn in Nov. 5 along with the other newly elected council members, Joseph Cannon in District 4 and Wayne Harper in District 5.
