Johnson Elementary principal on administrative leave

— Johnson Elementary Principal Dr. Casey Lewis has been placed on paid administrative leave, according Limestone County Superintendent Dr. Tom Sisk.

Sisk said he placed Lewis on leave Tuesday pending an investigation.

Lewis declined to comment on the matter Thursday. He said he first needed “to confer with his lawyer.”

School board member Charles Shoulders said the issue is “pertaining to the bid law, nothing pertaining to sexual harassment or other allegations.”

Sources outside the school system said the issue relates to the bid law and another possible financial matter.

The superintendent said an “allegation of wrongdoing” at Johnson Elementary was brought to his attention. It is not clear at this time if Lewis did anything wrong, he said. Details of the allegations or who made them were not made public.

Sisk said due process dictates a fair and impartial investigation that protects the good name and character of those involved. It is standard practice to remove the person from the situation while an investigation is conducted, Sisk said.

Limestone County Executive Directors Zebbra Green and Rhonda Stringham were assigned to complete the investigation. When that is complete, Sisk will make a recommendation to the Limestone County Board of Education.

Lewis assumed his role as principal of Johnson Elementary School on July 1, 2009. The Dallas native has worked in education for the past nine years. He was a special education teacher for five years, an assistant principal at Tanner High School for two years and the principal of Reid Elementary School for two years.

Louis Berry, assistant principal at East Limestone High School, is filling in for Lewis at Johnson.
