Joe Ivey with the Limestone Amateur Radio Emergency Service told the County Commission Monday that his organization contributed $136,625.47 in services to the community in the last calendar year.
“This is at no cost to anyone,” said Ivey. “We perform communication for organizations from the Emergency Management Agency to the Christmas parade.”
Ivey said the past year’s dollar amount of services tops the previous year by $8,000.
County Commission Chairman David Seibert thanked Ivey and his organization for the public service they perform.
Other business
In other business, the commission approved:
• Reimbursing county employees $250 each on medical expenses;
• Agreement with Tracking Solutions LLC for electronic monitoring for the Juvenile Probation Office;
• Purchase of the Barley property, a 2-acre tract off U.S. 31 South adjacent to the health department jointly with the city of Athens at a cost of $35,000 for the county portion;
• Cooperative agreement for a fiscal year 2010 Emergency Management Performance Grant of $4,013;
• Contract with Lee Helms Associates to revise the Hazard Mitigation Plan for EMA;
• Agreement to provide office space for U.S. Census Bureau workers to help residents with 2010 Census questionnaires;
• Award of bid to Lynn Layton Chevrolet for one or more new medium size SUVs for the Sheriff’s Department at a cost of $35,559 each;
• Promotion of Teresa Harzog to appraisal clerk in the Revenue Commissioner’s Office;
• Family medical leave for William Foust;
• Speed limit of 25 mph for Vassar Street in District 2.
