Wild Game Cook-Off to be held Oct. 4 at Ingalls Harbor

— The Morgan County Chapter of the Alabama Wildlife Federation will host its 16th annual Wild Game Cook-Off Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Decatur. The event will be at 5:30 p.m. at Ingalls Harbor.

The National Guard returns this year to host activities for children.

“The event is an excellent time for sportsmen and women and outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy some good ol’ fashion fun and fellowship, and it is a fabulous time for backyard chefs to show off their culinary skills,” said AWF spokesman Greg Lambert.

Cook teams will compete in three divisions this year including the fish, fowl, and game divisions.  First-, second-, and third-place awards will be given to the teams with the tastiest treats in each division in addition to awards for the Best Overall Winner and the Best Presentation.

Cook teams are needed.  Entry for cook teams is free and all teams must pre-register prior to the day of the event. For additional information about the competition or to register your cook team for the AWF’s Wild Game Cook-Off, call David Thomas at 256-606-4161 or Sam Glover at 256-318-0157.

Those who prefer to eat rather than compete can sample the dishes. Some of last year’s delicacies included shredded smoked venison, stuffed halibut, smoked pheasant and venison with crawfish etouffée.

Tickets into the Wild Game Cook-Off are $35 per couple/person and free for cook teams and children under age 16. The ticket price includes a one-year membership in the Alabama Wildlife Federation, a subscription to the Alabama Wildlife magazine, and all the free samples of food you can eat.

Or purchase a ticket online at www.alawild.org.
