ATHENS —
A man living at an Athens motel has been arrested for failing to notify law-enforcement officials before leaving the state.
Athens Police arrested Rory Dale Dennard, 53, on two warrants for violating the Community Notification Act governing convicted sex offenders, records show.
Dennard had been living at a local motel until February 4, when management discovered he was a convicted sex offender, Lt. Trevor Harris reported.
Dennard left the motel the same day but failed to immediately notify law-enforcement officials of his new address as required by the law governing convicted sex offenders.
When Dennard did call Officer Greg Parnell on Feb 8, he had already left the state, Harris said.
Parnell obtained warrants for terminating residence without notifying law-enforcement and failure to obtain a travel permit, Harris said.
He was booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail, where bail is set at $6,000.
Dennard was sentenced to serve 18 months to three years in prison on a conviction for the 2000 second-degree attempted rape of a 13-year-old girl in New York, according to the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website at http://www.nsopw.gov.
