Nearly two years have passed since Wendy Defoe Bond was bludgeoned to death in the old Trinity School in Athens.
Though only 26 years old at the start of 2011, the Athens woman’s adult life had been a struggle. There was trouble behind her and there was about to be more trouble before her.
In previous years, she had linked up with a man, Lamar Anderson, 47, of Athens, who had abused her, according to family and friends. One neighbor said Anderson once beat Wendy for trying to leave him and then put something over the doors so he would know if she tried to leave.
Several times, Wendy had tried to break the cycle of abuse. She sought counseling and shelter from domestic abuse organizations like Hope Place. She had been at Hope Place on March 9, just four days before her body was found, and she was supposed to return that night, her mother said. She was last seen at a home on Plato Jones Street the night of March 12.

Board approves Garris as new Elkmont principal
The Limestone County Board of Education approved the contract for Garth Garris, 44, during Tuesday’s board meeting. Garris was named the new principal of Ekmont High School, and he begins work June 24.

KALB moves forward on Farmers Market green space
