Mo Brooks, R-Huntsville, Tuesday joined nine other Republican congressional freshmen being interviewed by ABC.
Brooks’ segment will air at 5:30 p.m. today on a special edition of “World News With Diane Sawyer,” according to Skyla Freeman, Brooks’ assistant. A brief introductory segment was to have aired on the Tuesday evening news, she said. The program is carried locally by WAAY-TV Channel 31 in Huntsville.
Freeman said Tuesday that he had been interviewed in the afternoon and was scheduled to be in meetings the remainder of the day through 9 p.m. She said technicians were installing phone and computer lines in Brooks’ Washington office Tuesday.
Today, Brooks, along with Terri Sewell, D-Birmingham, and Martha Roby, R-Montgomery, will be sworn into office with each hosting receptions after the ceremonies on Capitol Hill.
Brooks, who has held several local and state offices over the past 30 years, defeated Steve Raby by 58 percent to 42 percent in the November general election.
Beside Brooks, Sawyer also interviewed Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky; Sen. Mike Lee, Utah; Rep. Paul Gosar, Arizona; Rep. Michael Grimm, New York; Rep. Frank Guinta, New Hampshire; Rep. Vicky Hartzler, Missouri; Rep. Tim Huelskamp, Kansas; Rep. Marlin Stutzman, Indiana, and Rep. Scott Tipton, Colorado.
Appointed by House Republican leaders in mid-December, Brooks will serve on the Armed Services Committee and the Science and Technology Committee, both powerful appointments.
The Armed Services Committee has jurisdiction over all Department of Defense operations, including oversight of the war in Afghanistan and remaining activities in Iraq. The Science and Technology Committee has jurisdiction over NASA, FAA, EPA and FEMA.
