In tough economic times, citizens with lower incomes look for ways to stretch their grocery dollars. The Community Action Partnership offers assistance through their Garden Voucher program.
Eligible participants receive a voucher good at the Farmers Market on Green Street to obtain necessary items to grow their own fresh vegetables.
The eligibility of applicants is determined by the gross income of the person or family, the number of people in the family and whether the family is at or below the poverty line.
Applicants can call Margie Miller of the Community Action Partnership in Athens at (256) 233-3905, or LaTonya Crutcher in the Ardmore office at (256) 423-2400 for confirmation of eligibility.
Photo identification and Social Security cards are required for application.
