Suspect in Raceway robbery arrested

— A man suspected in last month’s robbery of the Raceway station on U.S. 72 has been arrested.

Police Chief Floyd Johnson said John Robert Johnson was arrested Tuesday morning on charges of first-degree robbery.

Johnson was arrested after Athens Police Lt. Steve Moore and Officer Tom Allen requested that Huntsville Police check an address to see if Johnson was there.

He was apprehended and brought to the Athens Police Department, where he was booked and transferred to the Limestone County Jail. He remained in jail Tuesday afternoon on $20,000 bond.

Johnson was identified as the suspect in the Nov. 24 robbery, and Athens Police Investigator Patrick Minor obtained a warrant for Johnson’s arrest.
